What was the best podfic you made this year?
"best" can depend on a LOT of variables, and running an eye over the other categories so I don't repeat myself, I'll say that my "best" podfic, defined as The One I Was Happiest To Share With The World Because I Did A Good Job Damn It might be Chaos War. There are a lot of little things in it that came out really, really well - I'm particularly proud of the Frost Giants' voices, and there's a scene around the middle where Loki's nearly hysterical that came out really well, and, of course, yue_ix did the most AMAZING cover art for it and I'm still in AWE <3___<3
Most popular?
Tomorrow Belongs to Me, which kinda boggles me because it's nearly 10 hours long O.O Though I do love that thing dearly (I was so worried to post it because I was sure I'd missed SO MANY FLUBS but I was hitting the point where I could recite whole passages from memory and my (offline -_-) beta told me it was fine so I squinched my eyes shut and clicked "post"
Most underappreciated?
The Young Wizards ones - not a surprise, as it's an itty bitty fandom, but it's a fandom of my heart, and I love them to pieces *squeezes them to bosom*
Personal favorite, for whatever reason?
I mean, I love them all, for a great variety of reasons, so - Few So Generous, because it gives me FREYA FEEEELS; Everything's Better With Bunnies (heh, bunny!loki XD); Complicated (the first time I did 1st person, and it turned out *really well* and I *love* Dono Vorrutyer); the Language of Love (heeee Hymne a l'Amour XD); To Sail Against the Tide (I don't know that I'll record any more LotR because, oddly, it's a canon/fandom too close to my heart, but this one was really special, and had just the right amount of bittersweetness to make it ok); A Fine Upstanding Man (Fraaaaaaazeeeeer); Can You Hear Heaven Cry (I love drunk!Dean dearly)... and Run Program: DUM-E because it gives me ALL THE DUMMY FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS *hugs dummy*
Most difficult to make?
AHAHAHAHAHAHA RUN PROGRAM DUM-E, HANDS DOWN. Now, don't get me wrong, I lovelovelove this podfic, I honestly, truly do *cuddles it*. But that podfic you hear? Is not the first, second, third or even fourth version I recorded, but the fifth. Most of which is due to my lack of organization - do I want to voice dummy like this, or like that? C&P the repeated bits (run program: happy) or not? How about the code-y bits - is "Steve_Tony" 'Steve and Tony', 'Steve underscore Tony', 'Steve (pause) Tony'? Should "neg" be 'neg' or 'negative'? How about that crazy bit of code? I need sound effects. And iron man stomp-y sounds and repulsor fire. No, no repulsor fire. Does dummy have affect? Do I keep the time stamps? How about music? How do I indicate the different spacings? Music? no, repulsor fire, no, voicing? OMG ROBOT NOISES! okokok I got it I got it I got it ... WAIT WHAT IS THAT HUMMING FUCK IT RERECORD EVERYTHING
Most "ah ha ha I can't believe I'm doing this"?
Many Kinds of Man, Many Kinds of Bodywash (ie - the old spice p0rn collab of hilarity) - it's actually the third product of that collaboration, but the first shall never be heard by other ears (though it is the origin of my co-conspirator's nickname!), the second being D17D0, which we didn't have as much fun with as we could have (*WHY* didn't we switch off voice parts? the random switching is just *weird* o.O). But in this one we'd hit our stride (more or less, as demonstrated by my co-voicer's confused cry of "do people really masturbate to this?!?!" - I thought he'd gotten the point of fanfic, honest. and it really was all his idea!) and though I think I'll stick to co-podding with podficcers from now on, it was a lot of fun - and kinda unbelieveable - in the moment ;D
Most fun to make?
the not!fics ! Not sure whether the Teen Wolf or Avengers ones (or Teen Wolf x Avengers!) were more fun, but making them is a *BLAST*! Editing them... not so much (talking that fast leads to a LOT of flubs), but they're so freaking much fun to record I couldn't care less :D SO. MUCH. ~~~*FUN*~~~
Was there one that didn't turn out the way you wanted?
*winces* well, 5 Ways Gabriel Could Have Returned is... not the best I've ever done. In fact, listening to it is kinda mortifying. First and Last time I ever record something as a pure amplificathon point grab (not that other things haven't also been point grabs, but they had other things behind them too - this didn't, and it shows D:)
Biggest learning experience?
Run Program DUM-E's already been mentioned, though that was a big one... Learning to Breathe, then. I really, really wanted to do it without sound effects, and it took several tries to get the right monotone I wanted for the computer-y parts, and keeping the monotone during the narration was surprisingly difficult, and I don't manage it quite as well as I would like, but it turned out alright in the end, and it was definitely a learning experience XD
What's next? Do you have any podfic goals for next year?
Mostly TheatripodTheatripodTheatripodTheatripodTheatripod! I've got a few big projects (a Sam/Gabriel h/c fic of pure h/c-ness, a long Natasha/Pepper piece, an Avengers Sentinel!AU, a series of Supernatural ficlets, a.... second Sam/Gabriel h/c fic of pure h/c-ness. It's possible I have a type XD) in the works (I get bored during breaks, and deal with it by podficcing extensively) and my eye on a few others (though I'm not allowing myself to start the two I *really* want to do until I've alpha-edited two others). But mostly I've focusing on Theatripod, as the others are all just me.
Otherwise - I'd like to podfic more in smaller fandoms; the world needs more Deep Space Nine podfic, and Five Kingdoms podfic, and Chalionverse podfic, and Wimsey podfic and classic!Who podfic and Tamora Pierce podfic. (Also I should use less random punctuation - comes of never actually having had a proper English Class in my life XD). And I've made a resolution to be slower about posting - this year was the year of Flubs in Posted Podfic, and it's pretty embarrassing DDDDD:
