Welcome aboard for this week's chapters of our Guardian readalong!

This week's chapters:

Chapter 17: Chu Shuzhi is freed of the merit shackles; Zhao Yunlan catches up with the Emissary at Kunlun Mountain and takes everyone to the peak, Daqing transforms into human shape, and Shen Wei and Ghost Face battle, and the Merit Brush makes an appearance.

Chapter 18: Shen Wei returns Daqing home, Zhao Yunlan talks to his father, and Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei have sex for the first time. Zhao Yunlan is unwell in the aftermath.

The corresponding part in the Chinese version on JJWXC/the fan translation starts with the last third of chapter 71 and goes up to the end of chapter 75.

If your team does not claim a date by April 21th 11:00 PM EDT or email the mods prior to claims, we will assign your team to a posting date.

If no team member is able to submit your date claims on behalf of the team, please use a proxy to submit a claim on your behalf. If you can't find a proxy, please email the mods at cap.im.events@gmail.com.

By submitting a claim, your team is committing to publishing your works on any of the dates chosen. If you believe you won't be able to finish your work by next month, please communicate your concerns with your partner(s) and the mods as soon as possible. You can find all extension and amnesty information in our Schedule and Process post.

Incomplete works, failure to meet the deadline, or a complete lack of communication with your team on and after your posting date will result in a participant's temporary ban from some cap_ironman events — for further details, read through our Defaulting and Participation Eligibility guidelines.

HOW TO CLAIM YOUR DATE

31 posting dates are available from 1st May to 31st May. Only two teams will be posting on any given day so that your Stevetony content is staggered for people to enjoy!

Before choosing the posting dates you will list, please make sure it will work for everyone on the team. You are required to have all works posted on your confirmed posting date by noon EDT so that you can send the mods the masterpost information on time. This means that if an artist is working with two creators (was double claimed), they will all post their fanworks on the same day.

Posting date claims will be run via a Google Form on a first come, first-served basis.

The Date Claims Form is linked here, as is the live claims spreadsheet that will show the claims happening real-time. The form will only open when date claims start, but you can access the link beforehand.

Your posting team is determined by the artist's CODENAME as given to you in the RBB matching email.

The person claiming on behalf of a team needs to know their CODENAME and 3-5 posting dates to list in order of preference.

Posting dates will be allocated in the order that forms are received.

Teams that submit forms where all dates listed have already been picked will be asked to resubmit.

Remember, only one person claims on behalf of their team.

Hi, and welcome to this week's installment of the Guardian novel readalong! ♡

This week's chapters:

Chapter 15: Zhao Yunlan takes Shen Wei to their still-unfinished new place, and gives him the key. Shen Wei receives bad news from the Netherworld - black clouds have formed in the thirty-third heaven, which hasn't happened for 800 years. Zhao Yunlan suspects that it was caused by Ghost Face, but Shen Wei doesn't explain and leaves for the Netherworld. Zhao Yunlan asks Daqing about Kunlun-jun, but Daqing doesn't remember much. He tells Daqing that Shen Wei is the Soul-Executing Emissary.

Chapter 16: Zhao Yunlan asks Daqing about the Emissary's origin, and Daqing thinks he couldn't have been born from the Netherworld because he's older than the Netherworld. Back at the SID, Zhao Yunlan talks to Sangzan and does research. Information about Kunlun seems to be deliberately erased, so he reads other closely related ancient stories. He thinks that Ghost Face wants to collect the Four Hallowed Artifacts to destroy the Four Pillars that hold up the sky. Chu Shuzhi doesn't regret his crimes and has a fight with Zhao Yunlan about it, until Zhao Yunlan magically binds him to a chair. The Magistrate visits, and asks Zhao Yunlan to go to Kunlun Mountain to stop Ghost Face from acquiring the Merit Brush. He's not fully truthful, and Zhao Yunlan sees right through it. He uses this opportunity to get Chu Shuzhi's merit shackles removed, and agrees to go to Kunlun Mountain, despite a letter from Shen Wei telling him not to agree to anything.

The corresponding chapters in the Chinese version on JJWXC and the fan translation are:
Chapter 15: From about 1/5 into chapter 68 up to the end of that chapter.
Chapter 16: From the start of chapter 69 until about 2/3 into chapter 71.

What are Cheats?
Cheats are rewards that allow participants to manipulate their cards so that they can be finished more easily. There are 2 kinds of cheats: shifting squares and swapping out squares. Shifting squares allows participants to swap locations of two squares on their card. Swapping out cheats allow you to discard one of your prompts entirely from your card and replace it with a prompt of your choosing from the Prompt List.
